Richard Elton “Rick” Hughes, 48, of Weirton passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 28, 2023.
Born on November 2, 1975, Rick was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
Rick’s life was a testament to kindness, joy, and a playful spirit. With an infectious sense of humor, he was a natural jokester, always ready to bring a smile to the faces of those around him. Loyal to the core, if Rick liked you, you had a steadfast ally in him; he gave his all, committing 100 percent to those he cared about.
A true outdoorsman, Rick found solace in the quietude of nature. Hunting and fishing were not just hobbies for him; they were cherished moments of communion with the great outdoors. His love for adventure extended to the open road, where he reveled in riding his Harley and tearing through trails on his quad.
Family was at the center of Rick’s world. He adored spending time with his daughters, Madison Marie and Tessa Ann Hughes, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love. His nephew, Chandon Slusarek, held a special place in his heart, as did his sister, Cherity Ellen Slusarek, and her husband Brandon. He was also always sharing his love for his parents.
Rick was a devoted and compassionate soul whose unconditional love extended not only to his family and friends but also to his faithful companion, Echo, his beloved dog. The bond they shared was a testament to the joy that Echo brought into Rick’s life.
Rick’s allegiance to the Pittsburgh Steelers was unwavering. He cherished the camaraderie of game days, sharing in the excitement at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday afternoons.
Rick’s high school years at Burgettstown High School were a foundation for his future endeavors. After graduating in 1994, he pursued his passion for electrical work, ultimately joining Union Electric in Burgettstown, PA.
In his youth, he attended the Paris Nazarene Church and later became a proud member of the Paris Sportsman’s Club.
Rick leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He will be remembered with love by his two daughters, Madison Marie and Tessa Ann Hughes; his mother, Cherrie Ellen Jones Hughes; his father and step-mother, Richard Eugene and Roberta Hughes; his sister, Cherity Slusarek (Brandon); his nephew, Chandon Slusarek. His memory will be cherished by his step-brothers, Jason and Andy Burt, and the countless friends and extended family who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
