Richard Earl Hoover, 86, of Weirton passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, at Brightwood Nursing Home in Follansbee. Born on April 15, 1938, in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the firstborn of three sons to the late Francis and Bertie Hoover.
Richard graduated from Big Red High School in 1956 and pursued further education at Steubenville Business College. He served in the United States Navy before embarking on a long and dedicated career at Weirton Steel, where he worked for over 30 years, retiring as a clerk in the Storeroom.
In 1974, Richard married the love of his life, Lucille Tassey. Together, they adopted and raised their daughter, Penny Rodgers. Rich was a man of many talents, particularly in the arts. He had a passion for painting and drawing, where his creativity truly shone in the decorations around his home.
Richard was a member of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Weirton.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert and Thomas.
Richard is survived by his wife, Lucille; his daughter, Penny; two granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private visitation will be held at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of the Word Service.
Richard will be cremated after the service and his cremated remains will be placed at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Navy and the American Legion Post 10.
