Richard “Rick” Harcharik, 68, of New Cumberland, WV, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his friend’s hunting camp in Doddridge County on February 25, 2024. He had enjoyed a memorable day with friends at the camp on Saturday, only to not wake up on Sunday.
Born in Weirton, WV, on June 6, 1955, Rick graduated from Weir High School in 1973. He continued his education at West Virginia University. His professional life spanned an impressive 50-year career in the Steel Industry. Rick’s dedication was evident as he navigated through various transitions and buyouts, starting at Weirton Steel, ISG, ArcelorMittal and Cleveland Cliffs. He was currently working in the Tin Mill batch anneal department and was representing fellow workers as their Union Steward.
Despite his commitment to work, Rick’s true passion lay in his family. He met the love of his life, Cindy, while both were volunteering with the Weirton Heights Volunteer Fire Department. They married on May 12, 1984, and were blessed with a daughter, Abby, and a cherished granddaughter, Sutton.
Rick was not only a devoted family man but also an avid outdoorsman. He reveled in the thrill of deer hunting and was a lifetime member of the Paris Sportsman’s Club. While he was not hunting deer down state, he was feeding them in his backyard. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn and was known for his willingness to help others.
He was a parishioner at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Holy Name.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Pauline Matyas Harcharik, and his sister Katherine Harcharik.
Rick will be remembered with love by his wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Bee Harcharik; his daughter Abby Manni (Ross); and his granddaughter, who he adored, Sutton Manni.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday from 3-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday at Saint Paul’s Church. In a touching and memorable tribute, Rick will be transported to Saint Paul’s Church and Cemetery on a fire truck, honoring his dedicated service and Life Membership to the WHVFD.

I have known the Harcharik Family most of my life and Rick was one of the best people I know. Most of my memories revolve around Weirton Heights Volunteer VFD and Weirton Area Ambulance & Rescue Squad. He was an outstanding public servant, father, grandfather and husband. He will be missed by every one who knew him. Rest in Peace My Friend! I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers during this extremely tough time!
So very sorry for your loss. 🙏
Rick was one great Co-Worker. May God have mercy on his Soul. Blessings to the Family.
I am very sorry to read of Rick’s passing. The last time I talked to Rick was at Mass, he told me his grand daughter makes his house a total disaster, and he loves every minute of it ! The Weirton Community and St. Paul’s Parish lost a great person in Rick Harcharik. Rick will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Great guy who took care of his co workers with utmost respect for every individuals situation. My prayers and condolences to his entire family.
My Uncle Rick was the most generous and patient man. I remember most of his visits when I was younger involved him entertaining us kids on the floor at Grandpa Bee‘s and I was lucky enough to get to see him do the same with my babies. He always talked about me coming up to visit. Well, now I finally am getting to visit him. ❤️ He will be remembered for his kind heart and plethora of dad jokes. I love you Cindy and Abby. Big hugs from the Sanchez Family. I cannot wait to meet Sutton and see his memory live through her. ❤️
Rick was a great mentor for showing me the ins and outs of the weirlite and the mill in general. He had a story and good advice for whatever you needed. Going to miss him and my prayers are with his family.
Our sincere condolences to Cindy and family. May God comfort you through this difficult time. 🙏🙏
My condolences to the family. Rick was a pleasure to work with. Always a great guy to talk to. Our shanty’s at work are right next to each other so we talked frequently.
Cindy, I planned on giving you a hug in person, but my hubby is in ER. I remember your wedding.. and so many other happy moments. Call if you need anything. Love, Sharon Bogarad
