Richard “Rick” Stephens, 75, of Clinton, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at WVU Medicine – Weirton Medical Center.
Born on September 20, 1950, in Washington, Pennsylvania, Rick was the son of the late Raymond Charles and Julia Melvin Stephens.
In the last month of his senior year of high school, Rick began his career at J&L Steel in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, where he worked for many years.
Rick enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He was happiest with a cold Budweiser; affectionately known by him as “Bud Heavy” in hand, trying his luck playing Keno or the slot machines in Weirton, or spending time in the outdoors. An avid deer hunter, he cherished hunting in the Frankfort Springs alongside lifelong friends. Sadly, Rick had become the last surviving member of that close-knit hunting group. He also treasured the companionship of his beloved dog, Lucy.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his loving dog Lucy, who died one week prior to Rick’s death.
He is survived by his brother, Larry Stephens, his two sons, Randy (Billi Jo) Stephens and Michael “Gunny” (Tracy Couch Kowcheck) Stephens; his grandchildren, Amanda (Aaron McKindley) Strope, Garrett Stephens, and Gretchen (Chase) Searcy; his great-grandson, Hudson McKindley.
In accordance with Rick’s wishes, he will be cremated, at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home, and no services will be held. His family is honoring his request.
