Rita Faye Mansfield, 82, of Weirton, WV, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on April 4, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.

Born on September 27, 1941, in McDowell County, WV, Rita was the daughter of Howard Marshall and Helen Heffinger Cochran. She was a dedicated provider for her family, working as a cook at the eatery in the former K-Mart in Weirton, where she eventually retired from. Rita’s work ethic was matched only by her devotion to her loved ones.

Rita found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved playing BINGO, watching TV, and engaging in computer games, but above all, she adored spending time with her grandchildren. Rita’s face would light up with joy whenever she was surrounded by her family.

In her leisure time, Rita enjoyed playing cards, watching wrestling, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers. She had a particular fondness for a good hot dog, savoring the simple delights of life.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Marshall and Helen Heffinger Cochran, her twin sister, Freda Swearingen, sisters Lois and Irene Runyon, and brothers William “Ronald” Cochran, Junior Cochran, Roger Cochran, and Don Cochran. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Donald T. Caruth.

Rita is survived by her loving children, Keith and Shirley Mansfield, James and Debbie Mansfield Jr., and daughter Laura Caruth. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her eight grandchildren: Annamarie, Zander, and Michelle Mansfield; Maria, Andrea, and Chrissy Boby; and Allison Rose and Madison Caruth. Rita was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Emilia Dalton, whom she cherished deeply.

Rita Faye Mansfield will be remembered for her warm smile, her unwavering love for her family, and her zest for life.

A celebration of Rita’s life will be held at a later date to honor her memory and the impact she had on those around her.
