robert ewing
Robert A. Ewing, 81, of Weirton, passed away Monday, October 06, 2008 at his home. Born January 13, 1927 in New Cumberland, WV, he was the son of the late Robert C. and Lillian Bloomgren Ewing. Mr. Ewing was also preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy Phyllis Turley Ewing and second wife of 10 years, Cecelia Volpe-Palumbo Ewing. With over 42 years of service, Mr. Ewing retired from Weirton Steel where he served as Superintendent of the Sheet Mill. Robert was an avid golfer who enjoyed his golf outings at Beaver Creek with his friend, Betty. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, a member of the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club, New Cumberland Lodge 22 AF & AM and the Northern Panhandle Shrine Club. Robert is survived by his son John Ewing and his wife Karin of Follansbee; daughter Susan Mackie of Delray Beach, FL; step-son Francis Palumbo and his wife Joanna of Charlotte, NC; brother Ray Ewing and his wife Lois; sister Marian McDonald and her husband Jack all of New Cumberland; grandchildren Dalton Puskarich, Kristen and Jonathan Ewing; step-grandchildren Damon & Craig Markowski and Tiffany & Monica Palumbo and friend Betty Branch. Friends will be received Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where funeral services will be celebrated 11AM Thursday. Reverend Kevin Bowers will preside. Interment will be in New Cumberland Cemetery where Military Services will be conducted by the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group and Masonic Graveside Services will be conducted by the New Cumberland Lodge 22 AF & AM.   3. Bob was my mentor in learning galvanizing. He spent as much time as I was willing to pass on his operating knowledge.Knowledge I was grateful to receive as a 24 year old. I will miss him.
