Robert L. Hawkins

Robert Lee Hawkins, 80, of Weirton, WV, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016, at Valley Hospice Care Center North, in Steubenville, OH.
Born March 16, 1936, in Rachel, WV, he was a son of the late Denzil and Alice Masters Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bill Hawkins and his sister, Jean Sypolt.
Hawkey, as he was known in the mill, retired as a welder fromWeirton Steel after 38 years of service.
A United States Army veteran, his favorite past times included Hunting and Fishing, and he enjoyed his times in Blackwater Falls, W.V. But most of all his enjoyment was found in being Pap. Rain snow, sleet or hail could not hold him back from cheering on his grandkids at their sporting events. He was affectionately known as Pap to all the kids who knew him.
Robert is survived by his wife Jackie VanHorn Hawkins; son Bruce (Linda) Hawkins of New Cumberland, WV; daughter Crystal Hawkins of Weirton, WV; brother Donald Joe (Mary Frances) Hawkins of Fairmont, WV; and his two grandchildren, Kyle (Sara) Hawkins and Kaitlyn Hawkins.
Friends will be received from 2:00 pm until time of his funeral service at 4:00 pm on Thursday at Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.
Rev. Dr. Ed Rudiger will preside.

Uncle Bob was a kind and gentle man. One of my fondest memories is when he would come to softball practice and hit balls to us, for hours he would give his time. Heaven has gained a great angel. Love to Aunt Jackie, Cry and Bruce.
