Roger P. Bennett
October 7, 1949 ~ October 26, 2021
Roger P. Bennett of Colliers passed away at Heritage Valley Hospital in Beaver PA on October
26, 2021; he was 72.
He was born in Weirton on October 7, 1949, a son of the late Wilbur and Betty Turner Bennett.
Roger was a graduate of Weir High School and furthered his education at West Liberty State
College, obtaining bachelor’s degrees in economics and History.
Roger retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel’s Coke Plant in Follansbee with over thirty-five of
service as a backhoe operator.
Roger loved to work with crafts that kept his hands busy, and his hobbies throughout his life
reflected this. From maintaining his garden to working on woodcarving projects, as well as
creating stained glass works, Roger took pride in hobbies that he could admire the results of
and share with others. Additionally, there was never a moment he didn't cheer on the Steelers
and the Mountaineers, especially during the football season.
His family described him as a friendly, light-hearted man who never knew a stranger and was
liked by all.
Remembering him fondly at home is his wife of forty-nine years, Carol, whom he married on
June 17, 1972. His son Matt (Carrie) Bennett of Wheeling, his daughter, Wendy Bennett Brown
of Colliers, brother Bill Bob Bennett of Michigan, sister, Pam (Gordon) Hanna of Kentucky, his
cousin that was as close as a brother, Tom (Linda) Bennett, and his grandchildren, Isaac,
Joshua and Audrey Bennett, Evan and Tyler Brown.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 2, 2021, from 6:00 pm until the 7:00 pm Memorial Service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Reverend Larry Barkley will officiate.
