Rose Stakias
March 29, 1925 ~ April 30, 2005
Rose Stakias, 80, of Weirton, died Saturday, April 30, 2005 at the Valley Hospice Palliative Care Unit in Steubenville, OH. She was born March 29, 1925 in Weirton, a daughter of the late Nick and Eleni (Varitatakis) Volakis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Stakias on January 3, 1999, and her brother, Spero Volakis.
Since her graduation in 1943 from Weir High School, Rose remained Chairman of the Reunion Committee. Before marrying Harry, Rose worked for Western Union. She was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, All Saints Greek Orthodox Senior Citizens, Daughters of Penelope, and the Ladies Philoptochos Society.
Rose is survived by her three daughters, Harriet Mastromichalis and her husband Gary, Stephanie Brown and her husband Larry, and Elaine Wilkins and her husband Joe, all of Weirton; and four grandchildren, Michael and Jacqueline Mastromichalis and Lenny and Justin Brown.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Monday at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where a Trisagion service will be held at 8 PM. Additional visitation will be Tuesday from 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Weirton. Rev. Fr. Dean Dimon will preside. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.
