ruth hartley

Ruth Helen Hartley, beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated caregiver, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at her residence on North 11th Street, Weirton. She was sixty-three years old.

She was born on July 23, 1960, in Weirton, one of the cherished five children born to John W. and Helen Sobieraj McAtee.

Ruth’s life was one of service and compassion. She graduated from Weirton Madonna High School in 1978, where her passion for caring for others began to blossom. She furthered her education at the Ohio Valley School of Nursing, earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Her commitment to the well-being of others led her to a fulfilling career as a nursing investigator for the State of West Virginia.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Ruth found joy in various hobbies and activities. She was an avid participant in the Tri-Area Dart League, finding camaraderie and competition in throwing darts. As a Parish nurse for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, Ruth blended her faith with her nursing expertise, providing spiritual and physical care to those in need.

In her leisure time, Ruth found solace in crocheting, a skill she used to create beautiful pieces for her loved ones. Her fondness for elephants reflected her gentle and nurturing nature, and she delighted in bowling and spending time with her cherished family.

Ruth treasured her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored her eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, finding immense joy in their laughter and milestones. Her love knew no bounds, and she poured her heart into nurturing and supporting each one of them.

Ruth’s unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a woman of strong Catholic faith, she found strength and solace in her relationship with God, which guided her actions and illuminated her path.

A natural-born caregiver, Ruth’s kindness and compassion touched the lives of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, selflessness, and devotion that will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her.

In addition to her family, Ruth had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved Coco, who brought her companionship and comfort throughout the years.

Ruth Helen Hartley will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love and grace she shared so abundantly during her time on earth.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Ron, John, and Dan McAtee, and her dog Trigger.

Left to cherish her memory with love and admiration are her sons, Adam (Amber ) Phillips of Weirton, and Jakob Hartley of Pittsburgh, her daughter Amy Kinder of Weirton, step-son Keath Hartley, Jr., eight grandchildren and one greatgrandchild, and sister Patty (Steve) Cox of Weirton.
