Sam Spadafora
April 29, 1905 ~ April 24, 2004
Sam Spadafora, 98, formerly of Weirton, died Saturday, April 24, 2004 in Cape Coral, Florida. Born April 29, 1905 in Gypsy, WV, he is the son of the late Frank and Marie Theresa (Biafore) Spadafora. He is also preceded in death by his wife Joann “Jay” (Iaquinta) Spadafora October 15, 1988, son Richard Anthony Spadafora in 1935, brothers Anthony and Vincent and sisters Angelina Arlia and Mary Dolfi.
After 37 years of service, Sam retired from Weirton Steel where he was a Steward in the Tin Mill. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3734, ISU Executive Committee and the WSX 25-Year Club. Sam was a Charter Member of the Tin Mill Credit Union. During his working years, and more passionately after retirement, his gardening was his favorite pastime and work.
Sam’s survivors include his daughters Theresa (Bill) Niesslein of Weirton, Elaine (Bob) Gerrero of Cape Coral, FL, Joyce (Noel) Schwertfeger of West Liberty, WV and Kathy (Ted) Gill of Kennesaw, GA; brothers John Spadafora of Weirton and Frank Spadafora of Inglewood, FL; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received Tuesday, 7-9PM and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV where the K of C Rosary will be held 7PM Wednesday and a prayer service at 3PM Wednesday afternoon.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 10AM at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church.
Entombment will be at St Paul Cemetery Mausoleum.

To Sams family, I am sorry to hear of your loss. Even though they are old it is still hard to give them up. Sam was the nicest steward I ever worked with while working in office and he was a favorite of my uncle, Jack Hamills. Not only that but he had a wonderful family that he loved so much. Kathy, Please accept my sincere sympathy, they don’t make them any better than Uncle Sam, he was the best. He helped me a lot, of course he helped everyone, that was his way of life, being a good person.
