Sam Visnic, 85, of Weirton, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1917 in Blaine, Ohio, the son of the late Alex and Mila Visnic Visnic. Two brothers, Thomas and Michael Visnic, and one sister Mildred Berlenge also preceded him. Sam was a member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church in Steubenville, Ohio, the Serbian Men’s Club, and the American Legion Post 10 in Weirton. He was a US Army, WWII veteran. Sam retired from the US Postal service where he worked for 34 years. He was a postal carrier. Sam is survived by his wife Katherine Karavas Visnic of Weirton, a son Samuel A Visnic (Debbie) of Hillsborough, NJ, two daughters, Stephanie K. Visnic of Cranberry, Pa., and Christine M. Visnic Lazarawicz (Steve) of Somerset, NJ. He has two grandsons, Steve and Scott Visnic of Hillsborough, NJ. He has one brother Rudy A. Visnic, and one sister Sally V. Mamula, both of Richmond, Ohio. Sam has several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV, where Pomen services will be held Friday evening at 7:30 PM in the funeral home. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11:00AM in the funeral home. Interment will be at the Serbian Cemetery in Weirton, with military graveside services, conducted by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard, the VFW #2716 Firing Squad and the Tri State Marine Corps.
