sandra gill

Surrounded by her loving family, Sandra K. Phillips Gill of Weirton WV, passed away at her home in Florida on November 1, 2023. Born May 28, 1947, Sandy was the daughter of the late Sophie and Stephen Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Kristen. Sandy married her grade school sweetheart, Robert J. Gill of Weirton WV, on June 6, 1970. They had a beautiful marriage until his death on August 14, 2017.

Sandy became a Registered Nurse from Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing in 1968, followed by her BSN from West Liberty State College in 1982. Sandy was the consummate nurse, always taking care of family and friends in their time of need, not to mention the countless patients over her career. She was a nurse at Weirton Medical Center from 1968 to 1987. Next, she went into home health, working at Carriage Inn Home Care as a branch coordinator then administrator for 20 years. She worked for years in semi-retirement at Medi Home Health then Heritage Complete Home Care as a quality control administrative RN. Sandy loved the beach and spent time in Florida. In 2021, she moved to Venice FL where she met her second life partner, Rich Strong of Noblesville, IN. Rich and Sandy spent a wonderful 2 ½ years together, enjoying the Florida sunshine, kayaking, and dancing the night away.  She battled a brain tumor in the last two years of her life, facing the challenges with grace, faith, and a willingness to fight.

She leaves behind her partner Rich Strong; son Robert (Mandy) Gill of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter Jaime (Charles) Chambers of Millersville, MD; grandchildren Alana and Robby Gill of Virginia Beach, VA; sister Shirley Phillips Murchland of Weston WV; and brother Stephen (Maureen) Phillips of Odenton MD.

A November 17 Celebration of Life is scheduled in Venice, Florida.

Friends will be received Saturday, December 9 from 12:00 noon until the 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 229 California Avenue, Weirton, WV.
