Selden ''Jerry'' Stone

Seldon S. “Jerry” Stone, 89 of Weirton, died Friday June 1, 2001 at the Knights of Saint George in Wellsburg, WV. He was born on December 23, 1911 in Clarksburg, WV, the son of the late Dr. John Spencer Stone and Martha Isabelle Seely Stone. His wife of 58 years, Anna Margaret Ramage Stone, also preceded him in death on August 30, 1991. Jerry retired from Weirton Steel Corporation in 1975 as a superintendent of the Coke plant river docks after 42 years of service. Jerry enlisted in 1942 in the United States Army as a private and served two years in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Captain. He was recalled in 1950 and served two years during the Korean Conflict and discharged in 1952. He was a member of Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, BPOE 1801, a life time member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, The Northern Panhandle Shrine Club, Osiris Temple Legion of Honor, Weirton Masonic Lodge 171, Royal Order of Jesters, West Virginia Alumni Association, National Rifle Association, Veteran of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Virginia Military Institute Keydet Club. He was named in an Athletic Endowment Scholarship Fund for West Virginia University, a WVU Gold Coat Member, and a WVU Mountaineer Athletic Club Member. His two brothers, Tom Seely Stone of Clearfield, PA and John Spencer Stone II of Hot Springs Village, AR, and a sister, Adelaide S. White of Corpus Christie, TX, survive. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Monday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, where services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, with the Rev. Larry D. Jackson officiating. Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard, VFW Panhandle Post 2716 firing Squad and the Tri State Marine Corp. Interment will follow at the Elkview Masonic Cemetery in Clarksburg, WV BPOE 1801 services will be at 7:00 PM Monday in the funeral home.
