Steve J. Dorich, 73, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at the Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Born May 21, 1931 in Weirton, he was the son of the late Marion J. and Agnes A. (Rodoevich) Dorich. Steve was also preceded in death by his brother Michael. With 43 years of service, Steve retired from Weirton Steel. Steve graduated from Weir High School in 1950 and served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1958. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, K of C Fourth Degree Assembly, Knights of Columbus 3734 and Counselor of Columbian Squires. He was also a member of the Weirton Elks Lodge 1801 and Croation Lodge, Italian Lodge #183, St. Paul Holy Name, St. Paul Cemetery Board and the Financial Committee. Steve served as 6th Ward Councilman for the City of Weirton from 1967 to 1971. In 1995, he was elected to serve as Councilman for Ward 1. He was re-elected in 2003. For eight years, Steve also served on the Weirton Planning Commission. His most enjoyable past-time was being JUICEMAN and Manager for Madonna High School Basketball. Steve’s survivors include his wife Christine (Segamiglio) Dorich of Weirton, whom he married May 7, 1960 at St. Paul Church in Weirton; three daughters, Annette Magnella and her husband Christopher of Austin, TX, Kristen Dorich of Pittsburgh, PA and Annmarie Dorich of Waldorf, MD and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Rocco Magnella both of Austin, TX. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-9PM and Sunday 1-4PM and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. A Prayer Service will be held at 3PM, and the Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 7 PM Sunday. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church with Monsignor Patrick Fryer and Reverend Father Tony Thurston presiding. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery with Military Services being conducted Memorial contributions may be made to the Steve Dorich Memorial Madonna Basketball Scholarship Fund. Mrs Dorich and family, I am very sorry for the loss of Mr Dorich..He was a great man and did whatever he could for me..I’ll always remember how he knew that I liked water after his famous juice before every game and would always have it ready for me, and how he would buy me shoes before every season.
