Steve J. Korzi, 87, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010, with his family at his side. Born June 17, 1923 in Windber, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late John and Anna Legan Korzi. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Barbara J. Korzi, brothers, John, Joe and George and Andy Korzi; and his sister Mary Figula. With over 30 years of service, Mr. Korzi retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a brakeman on the railroad. He served with the United States Navy during World War II. An avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family especially after church on Sunday, where he would prepare his famous pork and sauerkraut in preparation for the big game. He enjoyed bowling, where he bowled for Saint Joseph in the Church League and also in the Weirton Steel League. For relaxation Steve could be found doing a word search puzzle or playing pinochle or just listening to Polka music. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Three Score Seniors, Knights of Columbus 3734, American Legion Post 10 and formerly served as an usher for St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. Steve is survived by his wife Pauline M. Seganos Korzi of Weirton; son Steven "Gerry" Korzi and his wife Joanne of Lawrenceville, GA; daughters Catherine A. Barnabei and her husband Paul of Weirton, Deborah S. Kemp and her husband Mick of Toronto, OH, Dr. Carol A. Korzi and her husband Dave Kukura of Weirton and Jennifer L. Walter and her husband Dave of Sugar Hill, GA; six grandchildren Jamie and Chester Barnabei, Ryan and Daniel Kemp and Taylor and Nathan Walter. Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where the Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6PM. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Friday at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church with Father Joseph Augustine officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton where Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 200 Preston Avenue, Weirton, WV 26062.
