Steve Kopa 1935 – 2025
Just my last letter.
Upon my death, I would like to say it’s been a good ride being born in the USA. From a humble beginning to a humble end, I never met a man or woman I did not like. They were created in God’s image and His to judge. Mine was to live the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Without remorse, I will say if I offended anyone in any way, first and foremost, forgive me and it might pave my way
with the powers that be to fast track my way to the great promise somewhere, it may be.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Geporge and Mary (Luczanich ) Kopa; his brothers, Charles, John, George, Andrew and Pat Kopa; his sisters, Ann Von-Bergen, Elizabeth Allen, and Mary Boney.
He will be remembered with love by his wife, Eleanora (Merenda) Kopa; his sons, Christian and Aaron- Joel Kopa; his daughters, Gabrielle (Rob) Gilbert and Angelique (Harry Mantakos) Kopa; his sister, Sister Mary Euphemia (Helen) his grandchildren, Dominique (Nathan) Dober, Ethan and Evan Gilbert; and his great granddaughter, Amelia Dober.
A private visitation and Panahida Service was held on Wednesday December 10, 2025 at 11 AM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home in Weirton.
Rev. Fr. Luke Lyengar presided.
Steve was laid to rest by his family at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Saint Mary’s Byzantine Church or Mary H. Weir Library in Weirton or Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great in Uniontown, PA.

Dear Eleanor and family, please accept our sincere sympathy for loss . May Steve rest in peace and his memory be eternal. Richard and Angie Mahfood.
I have nothing but fond memories of Mr. Kopa and his family growing up on State St. I can picture Mr. Kopa jogging laps around the block after work in the mill in his work shoes.
The world is a little emptier without him. What an impression he made on the people who knew him. I’m so happy I got to be a small part of his life Love to all.
Eleanor & Family,
With deepest sympathy on the loss of your husband and father. May he rest in peace.
