Thomas Francis Poulton, of Weirton, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Trinity West Hospital in Steubenville, OH. Born on July 15, 1957, Thomas was the son of the late James and Frances (McQuade) Poulton.
A graduate of Weir High School, Class of 1976, Thomas went on to serve his country with honor as a veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his service, he dedicated his life to the steel industry, working at Weirton Steel and holding membership in their twenty-five-year club. Over the years, he held positions as a scarfer, crane man, railroad worker, and served at the Blooming Mill, where he built a reputation as a hardworking and reliable colleague.
Outside of work, Thomas was an avid outdoorsman. Fishing brought him immense joy, and he spent countless hours casting his line at Elk River, Elk Creek, Walnut Creek, and his favorite spot, the Paris Sportsman Club, where he held a life membership. Some of his fondest memories were made with his great-nephew and the apple of his eye, Jace. Whether teaching Jace how to fish or riding dirt bikes together, Thomas cherished every moment spent outdoors. His ingenuity and dedication shone when he attached training wheels to Jace’s minibike, ensuring they could ride side-by-side.
Thomas was a hands-on person who thrived on outdoor projects and adventures. His love for the outdoors was matched only by the bonds he formed with friends and family. The loss of his dear friends, Rickie “Turtle” Battista and Rick Harcharik, deeply affected him, and he often shared treasured memories of their time. Left to carry on those stories is his lifelong friends and fishing buddies, Richie Grossi, Gene Ferguson and Glenn Guz.
Thomas will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his hard work, and the unwavering love he had for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the memories he created and the lives he touched.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his sister Cindy Cottrell, and infant brother, Jimmy Poulton.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother Robert Poulton, Nephew Jason (Michelle) Poulton, niece Nikki Poulton, and great-nephew Jace Poulton, all of Weirton.
Friends are invited to visit Thomas’s family on Thursday, December 19, from 5-7 pm, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
