viola petrisak

Viola “Vi” Petrisak of Weirton went to meet the Lord on September 23, 2022, at Weirton Medical Center. Vi was born on December 26, 1925, to Stanley and Anna Byk Kopec, the youngest daughter of five children. She was 96 years old.

Vi graduated from Weir High School in 1943. Upon graduation, she was employed in retail and in the Weirton Steel Tin Mill sorting room.

She met the love of her life, Michael, at a polka dance and married at Sacred Heart of Mary on August 30, 1946. They were blessed with three children and continued polka dancing most weekends.

Vi enjoyed playing cards with her card club friends. She was a former member of Four Seasons and AARP. She loved baking bread and cookies and making pierogis with her family. Her greatest pleasures were spending time with her family and watching EWTN.

She practiced her faith at Sacred Heart of Mary where she was a member of the Christian Mothers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael W. in 1997; her son, Michael J. in 2009; son-in-law Tom Andreozzi, her brothers, Julius (Clara) Kopec, Edward (Irene) Kopec; her sisters, Bernice (Casmir) Piotrowski, and Helen Backel (Roland) Bangert.

Surviving are her daughters, Linda (Jim) Pauchnik, and Kathy Andreozzi; her grandchildren, Dr. Brian James (Kristen) Pauchnik and Michelle (Aaron) Buterbaugh, and her great-grandchildren, Colin and Lucy Pauchnik, Hannah and Hailey Buterbaugh.

  1. Candle Selection 7To Mrs. Petrisak’s family, we extend our heartfelt sympathy; she was indeed a lovely lady, always very friendly. May she Rest in Peace and now is reunited with her husband. Very sincerely, Mike & Marlene Runkel

  2. Aunt Vi every year sent me a birthday card. I am 48 years old this year. My parents always made me return a thank you card. I thought of Aunt Vi Friday. I thought of writing a letter to her just for no reason.

  3. For all the years that we were raising our children with Linda & Jim, we could count on seeing Mrs. Petrisak at least twice: at Michelle’s cookout birthday parties and our joint family Christmas parties. But then there were the showers, weddings, graduations, and funerals. At each occasion that brought us together, she had the warmest smile and shared the kindest and sweetest comments about our family. The last time I saw her, I still envied her beautiful complexion, and I never ever saw her, not even in the hospital, without her hair perfectly styled. Gracious and beautiful! She wasn’t just the mother of my good friend–she became a shared mom and grandmother to all of us. It’s hard to explain to others who didn’t grow up and raise children in our ethnic rich community of Weirton, how friends became family for life. So though we haven’t had much time with Mrs. Petrisak recently, your loss, Linda, Jim, and Kathy is our loss, too, but also a time to celebrate and be thankful for the blessings we shared together by having such an amazing and strong mom and grandma among us for many years. The Asfours and Stumps send their love to all of you!

  4. To Linda and Kathy,
Sending my deepest sympathy. Your mother was the kindest gentlest soul! So many wonderful memories of her baking and preparing for all the celebrations with our families… truly part of a great generation that we all miss. I’m sure she is at peace and is reunited with your loving father. Sending love,
    Rosemary (Viola) Rooker

  5. Candle Selection 4Kathy and Linda
You have my sympathies on the loss of your mom, she was a gracious lady. You and the rest of the family, will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Always Remember: Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, BUT Love leaves memories that no one can steal. God Bless.

  6. My sincere condolences to the family. I was VI’s neighbor for several years. I thought a lot of her and her husband. They were a blessing to the neighborhood.
    Rest In Peace.

  7. Vie, you will be missed, my grandparents and parents loved you with all their hearts! You were always so kind to our entire family. So with a heavy heart, I say Queenie, Rest In Peace.
