Windsor Heights, WV
Resided in:

Virginia Ann Guzzetta, 93, of Weirton passed away peacefully in her home on July 12, 2024.
A coal miners’ daughter born to Croatian immigrants, Virginia leaves a legacy of generosity, love, kindness, and selflessness.
Born on May 19, 1931, in the family home in Windsor Heights, WV, Virginia was the fifth of six children born to Luka and Molly Horvat Tominack.
A bright student and talented basketball player, Virginia graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1949 as a straight-A student. Her passion for nursing led her to the Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1953. Virginia’s journey in healthcare began humbly, mopping floors and working as a nurse’s aide during her teenage years. Her dedication and hard work paid off as she became a Registered Nurse (RN), initially working in Baltimore, MD for three years before returning to West Virginia. In 1957, Virginia married Dominic “Babe” Guzzetta, and together they built a loving family of three daughters, nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
In Weirton, Virginia found her true calling at Weirton General Hospital, and Weirton Medical Center, where she dedicated over 35 years of service in the operating room. Known for her extreme generosity, Virginia always prioritized the needs of others, often having less so others could have more. A natural caregiver, she opened her home and heart, caring for her mother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and husband in their times of need. Her generosity was always accompanied by a smile, making her a joy to be around and a comfort to those who knew her.
Virginia was a devout parishioner of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Christian Mothers. Her deep concern for the eternal souls of her family members was a testament to her unwavering faith. Additionally, she was a proud member of the American Association of Operating Room Nurses, exemplifying her commitment to the nursing profession.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic on December 24, 2013, her brothers, Ivan, Joe, and Sonny Tominack; and her sisters, Frances Rodocker and Helen Tominack.
She will be remembered with love and admiration by her three daughters, Marisa (Brian) Shreve, Monette Myers, and Mary Beth (Tricia) Guzzetta; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Jesse, Nicholas, Boomer, and Levi Shreve, Maggie (Chris) Virtue, Luke (Janna) Myers, Jacob (Angela) Myers and Stephanie (Michael) DiCarlantonio; her twenty great-grandchildren; and former son in law, Rick (Dee) Myers.
Her visitation will be Wednesday from 4 PM until 8 PM at the Greco – Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM on Thursday at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Weirton.
Fr. Binu Sebastian will preside.
Entombment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.

My sincere condolences on the passing of your mom/grandmother. I personally did not know her but when I would see her she always had that warm welcoming smile. I hope that image stays in your hearts along with pleasant memories. Her legacy lives through all of you. God bless, Cathy Arango
Deepest sympathy to the family
My sincere condolences to all of Virginia’s family. What an inspiration Virginia was to me! Her strong faith, fun-filled attitude, and heart of gold made it always a joy to be around her. Rest in Peace, Virginia.
To Virginia’s Family –
It saddens me to learn of her passing – she was one of the very fine ladies of Weircrest. She always had a smile and was interested to hear what was going on with our family. My mother, Nellie Pasternak, and Virginia were very close friends and sat on each other’s front porch exchanging memories. You were blessed to have her for a mother and grandmother.
Monette and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. We will always remember her & your dad at the football games for Luke & Jake.
May she RIP. ✝️🙏🏻

To Virginia’s Family
I have very fond memories of working with Virginia in the OR at Old Weirton General and Weirton Medical Center from 1976-1980. She was part of a Special group of OR Nurses that became like a second Mom to me at that time and all hold a special place in my heart.

I was raised a couple of homes away from the Guzzetta’s. Mrs Guzzetta was a very nice person, a great and caring neighbor. God bless her family and may she rest in peace.
Monette, Luke, Jake, and Stephanie,
I was so sorry to read of your mom and grandma’s passing. I remember whenever she picked you up from school she always had kind words and a big smile . You are truly blessed to grow up with a grandma and Pap. Think of all the great memories you will have. I grew up living in the same house as my grandparents and I also feel blessed and have many memories.
RIP Mrs. Guzetta

Dear Maggie, I am so sorry to just now see your grandmother passed away. When you and Kerri were hanging out, and I met her back then, I immediately like I knew her all my life. She just had that way about her. So kind and wise and I enjoyed talking to her all the time. I will miss her. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers, Maggie.
Hugs.
