Wamon Evert Powell, 84, of Weirton, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 in the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born August 9, 1930 in Mellin, WV, he was a son of the late Forrest Evert and Fannie Virginia Lanham Powell. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Kenneth and James Powell and two sisters Leora Cunningham and Rosie Brewer. Wamon was a graduate of Cairo High School in Cairo, Ritchie County, WV. With over 37 years of service, he retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a turn foreman in the Tin Mill Maintenance Department. He was Christian by faith, a member of the New Life Church in Weirton, where he was a member of Gems. He was also a member of the WSX 25-Year Club. Wamon is survived by his wife of 65 years Betty Martin Powell of Weirton, whom he married in Parkersburg, WV on June 12, 1949; sons Michael David (Lisa) Powell of Virginia Beach, VA and Nathan Andrew (Melissa) Powell of Southpoint, OH and daughter Dreama Elaine (Manual) Arango of Weirton; brother Carl (Oneta) Powell of Weirton; sister Evelyn (John) Jett of Findlay, OH; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Sunday 5-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be held Monday from 10 until the 11AM funeral service at the New Life Church. Pastor Bob Mazeroski will officiate. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Florence, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Life Church, 308 Penco Road, Weirton, WV 26062
