William A. Butto, 86, of Weirton, died Wednesday September, 7, 2005 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born on October 6, 1918 in Steubenville, OH, the son of the late Antonio and Margharita Franchiotto Butto. Bill was also preceded in death by his wife Athena Leontaris Butto on November 20, 1992; his three brothers, Bruno, Romeo, and Patsy; his sister, Julia Butto. Bill retired from the Weirton Steel Tin Mill after 45 years, where he worked in the Carton Department. He also served as a Union Steward for 25 years. During his high school days at Weir High, William played for the Carl Hamill baseball and football teams. He served his country in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. He enjoyed playing cards, was an avid golfer at the Woodview Golf Course and bowled in the Weirton Steel Leagues. Bill was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and the American Legion Evert Maki Post 10. He is survived by his son, Gary and his wife Sheryl Butto of Wintersville, OH; his daughter, Leslie DeVilling and her husband Harry of Follansbee, WV; his brother, Mike Butto and his wife Rose of Weirton, WV; his two grandchildren, Melissa Soltis and her husband Ed of Follansbee, WV and Stephen Butto of Wintersville, OH; his great-granddaughter, Tessa Ann Soltis; his two step granddaughters, Angela and Nicole Loppe; and his three step great grandchildren, Zachary, Austin and Luke. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 Pm Friday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday. Entombment will follow with Military Services conducted by the American Legion Post 10 and VFW Honor Guard in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton, WV.   1. Gary and Family: We were very saddened to hear of your dad’s passing. He was a kind man, and will be remembered fondly. I can still picture him walking in our back door and sitting with my dad (Fats) for hours. You are truly blessed for having him in your lives. If we can do anything for you, please let us know.
