William Benjamin Wheat

William Benjamin Wheat, 81 of San Diego, CA, formerly of Weirton, WV, died Sunday November 18, 2001 at his residence.
He was born on July 22, 1920 in Weirton, WV, the son of the late Benjamin and Helen Suzanne Soliday Wheat.
William retired in 1982, after 43 ½ years of service, as an operator in the Powerhouse of the Weirton Steel Corporation. He was an electrician’s mate second class in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 2716 and the AF & AM Lodge 171. He attended Maranatha Chapel in Rancho Bernardo. Prior to moving to California, William was a member of the Cove United Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed music, gardening and spending time with his four grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Viola Sample Wheat. They have three children, David Wheat of Fort Pierce, FL, Esther Robb of Rancho Bernardo, CA and Lauren Turk of Escondido, CA. He is also survived by his brother, Emil Wheat of Weirton and his sisters, Helen Pavlik of Youngstown, OH and Marsha Markowitz of Ormond Beach, FL and his four grandchildren, Erin and Daniel Turk and Lara and Bob Williams.
Visitation will be Friday, November 23, 2001, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday. The Reverend Terry Stoops will preside.
Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.
