William “Bill” Fidler of Weirton passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, surrounded by his loving family and closest friends. He was 71 years old.
Bill was born in Pittsburgh, PA. on December 8, 1951, a son to the late Garfield Austin and Clarabelle (Peggy) Shriver Fidler. He was also preceded in death by his sister Pam Groppe.
Bill is survived by his wife of fifty years, Pam, “The Love of His Life,” with whom he resided in New Cumberland. Also missing him on Earth are his daughter Jodi (Rob) Cole and son Michael (Lindsey) Fidler.
Bill was best known as “Pap” to his grandchildren Joshua, Rebekah, Chloe, Jennifer, Kinsey, Wyatt, and Abby Fidler, as well as step-grandchildren, Preston, and Lilli Cole. Siblings, Mary Ann Smith of FL. Peggy (John) Constantine of SC., Garfield (Hele) Fidler of Weirton, Norman (Ming) Fidler of FL, Sharon (Jim) Burdine of Colliers, father-in-law Ralph Bell of Weirton and brother-in-law Larry Bell of Kingwood, as well as several nieces and nephews. Finally, he will be missed by his best friend Lawrence Macek, and his beloved dog, Maddie.
Bill graduated from Oak Glen High School in 1971 and was employed by Weirton-Cleveland-Cliffs Steel Mill for 52 years. He was very artistic and took pride in his handmade leather crafting as well as woodcraft.
He loved to hunt with his son, granddaughter, brothers, and numerous friends, in Sistersville, WV. where he built a cabin, a special place for time with his grandkids and family.
He was also a member of Weirton Bow Hunter Club and Oakland Presbyterian Church. For several months he enjoyed driving his car “Sweet Pea” to car shows and won trophies.
Bill loved his family and grandkids, with whom he loved to hug, joke and tease.
These happy memories will never be forgotten.
Bill’s request for cremation has been honored.
Friends may visit with Bill’s family at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Monday, November 27, from 4 pm until the time of his 6 pm Memorial Service.
Pastors Randy Krebs and Bennett Briles will co-officiate.
