William F. Hooker

William F. Hooker, 78 of Weirton, died Friday, June 22, 2001 at his residence. He was born May 22, 1923, in Moundsville, WV, son of the late Louis and Stella Parker Hooker. William retired from the Weirton Steel Company, Steel Works Department where he worked as a craneman, with 34 years of service. He was a member of ARRP, the 25 year club of Weirton Steel Co., VFW, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a WWII US Army veteran and received the Purple Heart. He was Protestant by faith. He is survived by his wife Mapel Carroll Hooker of Weirton, whom he married in February of 1969. Four sons; Ronald and James of New Manchester, WV, Joseph of Follansbee, WV, and William F. Hooker Jr., of Huntington Beach, Calif. Two stepsons Gary Stewart of Weirton, WV and Richard Stewart of Largo, Fla. Two daughters Mrs. Edward Stella Carothers of Cadiz, Ohio, and Mrs. Jim Sue Hanlon of Follansbee, WV. One stepdaughter Mrs. Charles Dianna Warrick of Weirton, WV. William has 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Visitation will be 1-3 and 7-9 PM Sunday, June 24, 2001, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral services will be Monday, June 25, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Highland Hills Cemetery, Follansbee, WV. The VFW, American Legion, and the Tri-State Marine Corps will conduct military graveside services.
