William Lee Gadd of Follansbee passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 7, 2024, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV. He was ninety years old.

He was certainly a man of strong faith, a devout member of the Weirton First Church of the Nazarene, for many years he coached the bible quiz team at the church and progressed the teams to competitions throughout the United States and Europe.

One of Bill’s most memorable achievements was having the opportunity while working at Fort Sam Houston to be involved with the research and development of aspects of the artificial kidney, a piece of his life of which he was immensely proud.

In Bill’s spare time, he enjoyed hunting, traveling, and customizing old cars. His appreciation for cars led him to the NASCAR circuit, following the races during the season, traveling to various tracks, and cheering on his favorite driver, Jimmy Johnson.

Bill will always be remembered as a Man’s Man. His love for his family and his willingness to assist them with whatever they needed will be forever engrained in his family’s fabric. He will be sadly missed as the Patriarch of the Gadd Family.

  2. Bill will always have a special place in our hearts as Bill was the regional quiz director when my husband and I were quizzers. My husband was also fortunate enough to be a member of his regional quiz team. Bill also entrusted him to try to keep the regional scores on the campus computer his freshman year of college – it didn’t work because the system overheated. Bill still entrusted him to do it the next year and it never failed after that. While Bill eventually passed the torch to another director, my husband is still involved. Bill left quite a legacy.
