William Orpha Watson
February 14, 1930 ~ February 2, 2015
William Orpha Watson, 84, of Weirton, formerly of New Cumberland, WV died Monday February 2, 2015 at the Weirton Medical Center.
Born on February 14, 1930, in New Cumberland, WV, William was a son of the late Orpha and Edith Ross Watson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Millie Loar Watson on January 9, 2014, his son, William "Neal" Watson on September 7, 2014, an infant son, Jeffrey Alan Watson; a brother, Richard Watson and a grandson, William Jeffrey Cunningham.
William served in the US Navy aboard the USS Spokane.
He retired at Weirton Steel as a supervisor, where he was one of 7 men who were named, in 1980, Weirton Steel Division of National Steels CIP Men of the Year"- for superior contributions, initiative, and creativity for his cost reduction ideas that meant savings of more than $3.5 million to the Division, and strongly boosting Weirton Steels competitive position"- in 1974 and 1978 he was runner up for this honor. After retiring he became the superintendent of the Casselberry Golf Club in Casselberry FL.
A starting running back for New Cumberland High School, Mr. Watson created one of the area's first midget football teams, and was head coach of the Green Valley Warriors in the early seventies.
But most of all, he will always be remembered as a loving, caring family man, whose heart was full of love and laughter.
He is survived by his three sons, Gregory Watson of Orlando, FL, Scott Watson of Dunedin, FL, and Mark Watson, of Weirton, WV; his two daughters, Sherry Cunningham of Weirton, WV and Ashley Sacdalan of Colorado Springs, CO; a brother, Arthur "Jack" Watson of New Cumberland, WV and a sister, Saundra Brown of Alexandria, VA; eleven grandchildren, Kimberly Mull, Staci Lorello, Lisa Bogo, Jamie Hylock, Lindsay, Mia, Wesley, Ben, and Jacob Watson, Joshua and Caleb Sacdalan; and eight great grandchildren.
A celebration of William's life will be held on Valentine's Day Saturday February 14th at the Point Pleasant United Methodist Church 52 Bell Hill Road New Cumberland, WV from 12 noon until 2 PM.
Immediately following a memorial service will be held at the church at 2 PM.
Rev. Michael Rowe will preside.
Food and fellowship will immediately follow the service.
His body will be cremated by the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home and his cremated remains will be placed in New Cumberland Cemetery.
