Wilmont F. Kernen, 86, of Weirton, died Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. He was born August 7, 1917 in Raven Rock, WV, a son of the late Ralph Arnold Kernen and Freda Maude (Barker) Kernen. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Violet Marie (Miller) Kernen on June 8, 1996; one son, Thomas Kernen; and one grandson, Frank Eugene Kernen, Jr. Wilmont retired after 37 years of service from Weirton Steel where he worked as a millwright in the Blooming Mill. He served his country in the Army during WWII, and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club. He is survived by three sons, Randy L. Kernen, Sr. of New Cumberland, WV, Franklin E. Kernen of Weirton, and William W. Kernen of New Cumberland; one brother, Ralph Kernen of St. Albans, WV; one sister, Freda Kernen of Raven Rock, WV; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Saturday at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be held 1 PM Sunday. Rev. Marvin Taylor will preside. Entombment will follow at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV where military services will be performed by the American Legion Post 10, Veterans of Foreign Wars #2716, and Tri-State Marine Corps.
