anthony macre
Anthony S. Macre was born on March 28, 1925, in Galloway, WV, to Joseph and Concetta Sicilia Macre. He had five brothers; James, Sidney, Sylvester, John T. and Albert, and three sisters; Mary, Helen and Rita. Anthony served in the US Army during World War II, having served with the 249th Engineer Combat Battalion. On April 20, 1949, Anthony married Betty J. Elliott, and together they had one son Anthony. After 30 years of service, Anthony retired from the Kroger Company where he worked as a Meat Department Manager. Anthony was an avid bowler. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus 3734, K of C Fourth Degree Assembly, Three-Score Seniors, Italian Sons and Daughters of America, VFW Post 2716, American Legion Post 274, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 619, and the Theta Chi Alpha Fraternity where he was the recipient of the “Presidents Award” . On Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at age 78, Anthony passed away. He is survived by his wife Betty, and son Anthony and his wife Janet all of Weirton; two brothers Sylvester Macre and his wife Pauline and Albert Macre and his wife Angela all of Steubenville; one sister Rita DiNicola, also of Steubenville; two grandchildren, Pamela Macre of Bradenton, FL and Anthony J. Macre of Weirton. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. On Wednesday, a prayer service will be held at 2:00, the Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 and from 7 – 9, the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly Honor Guard will be in attendance. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Thursday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the Weirton V.F.W. Post 2716 Firing Squad, the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the Tri-State Marine Corps. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
