bernard fair, jr.
Bernard D. “Red” Fair, Jr. a loving father and family man of Weirton passed away on November 6, 2021. He was 86. Bernard was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on March 23, 1935, to Bernard D. and Sue Banko Fair, Sr. At a young age, his family moved to Weirton, where he lived the rest of his life. At 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country during the Korean War. After returning from the War, Bernard took advantage of the G.I. Bill and was trained to pursue a career in auto body. He provided for his family by working at several car dealerships in Steubenville and Weirton before owning and operating his own business. Red’s honesty, combined with his talented skill in repairing cars, made his businesses of Red Fair and Sons and later Fair’s Autobody a trusted place to get your vehicle fixed for over twenty years. In their fifty-seven years of marriage, Red and his wife Alma Jean loved to square dance and make trips to the Amish Country. Sadly, Alma Jean passed away in 2018. In recent years, after the passing of his wife, Red enjoyed the company of his girlfriend, Connie McCourt. Red will be remembered for his love of horses and his love for tinkering around with cars. He enjoyed restoring his 1935 Chevrolet truck and 1936 Oldsmobile but nothing compared to the love he had for his family. Red was a member of the Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, the Tri-State Marine Corps, and the Oldsmobile Club. In addition to his parents and his wife, Red was preceded in death by his son, Bernard Andrew “Andy” Fair; daughter-in-law, Sherry Fair, his two sisters, Evelyn Rae and Linda Littleton, and his half-brother, Tom Fair. He will be remembered with love by his sons, Guy Howard (Pam) Fair, William, “Bill” (Julie) Fair, and Eugene Fair; brother, Charles (Glenda) Fair, half brother, Mark Fair; his sister, Judy (Harold “Hal”) Auerbach; his daughter in law, Debra Fair his ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Friends and family will be received Tuesday from 2 PM until the time of his funeral service at 5 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV Military Honors will be rendered at 5 PM Tuesday by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the United States Marine Corp.
