Betty Leona Powell, 85, of Weirton, WV passed away Saturday August 13th, 2016 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. She was born on September 11th, 1930, daughter of Charles and Irene (Collins) Martin of Parkersburg, WV. A Homemaker and Christian by faith, member of New Life Worship Center. Many knew her as their Sunday school teacher. She also was the Chair Director, Secretary/ Treasurer and Ladies Auxiliary President of her church. She was a Respiratory Therapist at Weirton General Hospital, President of Broadview Elementary PTA, and volunteer for many years at Weirton Medical Center where she also served as Auxiliary President. Presiding Betty in death were her father, Charles A. Martin, her mother, Angie I. (Collins) Martin of Parkersburg, WV. One sister Jo Ann McKinnon of Columbus, OH. Her husband of 65 years, Wamon E. Powell of Weirton, WV. They were married June 12th, 1949 by Rev. J.C. Cole, in Parkersburg, WV. Surviving are a daughter Dreama Elaine Arango, Weirton, WV, two sons, Michael David Powell of Virginia Beach, VA, and Nathan Andrew Powell of South Point, OH. Four sisters, Caroldine Wolfe of Florida, Murdayne Zehm of South Carolina, Edith Love of Virginia, and Eileen Willis of West Virginia Eight grandchildren: Kristina Knuutila, Jessica Gibson, Mandi Dietrich, Kristen Worthy, Macy Dingess, Keeley Powell, Katie Powell, and Madison Powell. Twelve great-grandchildren: Zachary, Kristopher, Heaven, Ashton, Rebeka, Gavin, Lexus, Lennon, Jessie, Ella, Keaton and Peyton. Along with numerous nieces and nephews. Her goal in life was to live pleasingly and faithfully unto God, her desire was to make Heaven her home. Anyone that knew her, knew this to be true. Visitation will be held at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home from 6-9pm on Tuesday and on Wednesday at 10am at New Life Worship Center, prior to the 11 o'clock service with Pastor Bob Mazeroski and Assoc. Pastor Dave Parker officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery in Florence, PA. Memorial contributions may be directed to New Life Worship Center at 1492 Knights Rd, Weirton, WV 26062.
