bill kurenszki
Bill Joe Kurenszki, loving husband and father, passed away at his home with his family at his side on January 1, 2021. He was 82. Born as Bela Kuremszki in Goncruszka, Hungary on December 4, 1938, he was the first of five children born to Mihaly and Gizella Borisz Kuremszki. At the age of 19, Bill escaped communist ruled Hungary on an eleven-day journey of 250 miles on foot to Austria. He had shelter for three years in Austria until he was legally accepted into the United States of America on February 12, 1959. After two years in America prior to becoming an official US citizen, Bill fulfilled his immigration requirement and was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country from 1961 to 1964 stationed in Germany. On November 25, 1961, he married MaryAnn Wilson. In their 59 years of marriage, they were blessed with two daughters and four grandchildren. Bill provided for his family by working 30 years in Weirton Steel where he retired from the Boiler House. After retirement, Bill began his second career, with great pride as he delivered prescriptions for Tri-State Pharmacy. He was a talented mechanic and self-taught in the areas of masonry, electrical, and plumbing. You could describe him as a jack of all trades always willing to help family and friends. In his free time, he loved watching NASCAR. He enjoyed a good game of Euchre and spending time with his family. Bill never met a stranger. He will always be remembered for his jovial smile, kindness to others, and the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren. They were his world! Bill was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and the American Legion Post 10. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Hornyik and Rose Kiss and his brother Steve Kuremszki all from Hungary. He will be remembered with love and admiration by his wife, MaryAnn Wilson Kurenszki; his daughters, Renee (Curt) Virtue and Lori (Dave) Bernola; his grandchildren, Justin and Nicole Virtue and Olivia and Isabella Bernola; sister, Elizabeth (Laszlo) Csonka of Mucsony, Hungary.
