Carl David Merenda of Weirton, WV, a retired Major in the United States Air Force, passed away on December 8, 2021. He was 73. Carl was born in Weirton, WV, on September 20, 1948, one of eight children born to Frank and Mary (Radeski) Merenda. He graduated from Weirton Madonna High School and attended West Liberty State College, where he met his future wife, Donna DeMayo. On February 13, 1971, Carl and Donna were married. In their fifty years of marriage, they were blessed with three children and eight grandchildren. With Carl’s 22 years of service as a USAF pilot, there were many moves and deployments stateside and overseas. Oftentimes, his family was not permitted to know where he had been assigned but were proud of his ability to fly a multitude of aircraft including fighter jets, bombers and helicopters. Sadly, he is preceded in death by Donna. Carl was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. In addition to his parents and his wife, Carl was preceded in death by his sisters, Joanne Merenda, Rosemarie Colantonio, Frances Risk, and Regina Brun. He will be remembered with love by his two daughters, Nicolette (husband James Mehaffey) and Kristina (husband Michael Redwood), and his son, Carl Frank Merenda (fiancé, Jaedra Luke) and eight grandchildren, Jamie, Connor, Sophie, Nico, Ava, Gia, Kalen, and Rocco.; his brother, Frank Merenda; and his sisters, Dolores Frisco and Eleanora Kopa (Steve). Carl will be laid to rest in St. Paul's cemetery. Per Carl's wishes, there will be no viewing and laid to rest at a date to be determined.
