Charles W. "Bill" Shreve, 81, of New Cumberland, WV, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born June 3, 1928 in Smithfield, WV, he was a son of the late Charles Elmer and Hazel Bell Shreve. He was also preceded in death by brothers James, Francis and an infant brother. With 40 years of service, Mr. Shreve retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a transfer car operator for 28 years. He was a member of the Northside Church of God and the WSX 25-Year Club. He served in the United States Army. Charles is survived by his wife Reta V. Wharton Shreve of Weirton; son Ricky D. Shreve and his wife Corinne of New Cumberland, WV; daughter Sharon Barnes and her husband Thomas of Weirton; brothers Arthur Shreve and his wife Maxine and Elmer Shreve all of East Liverpool, OH; sisters Louise Gump of Elyria, OH, Olive Weaver of Weirton, Wilma Jean Ensminger and her husband James of Mannington, WV, Geraldine Spencer of Arizona, Marlene Greathouse of Metz, WV, Lavina Crow and her husband John of Wellsville, OH and Cindy Slagel and her husband Edward of East Liverpool, OH; five grandchildren, Bridgette and Lonnie Forester, Joshua, Christopher, Jessica and Timothy Shreve and seven great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8 at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where funeral services will be conducted at 11AM Monday. Pastor Curtis Moser will officiate. Entombment will be in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV where military services will be conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad.
