charles zarnoch
Charles Paul Zarnoch passed away peacefully on January 16, 2022. His final days were spent comfortably in his home in Weirton, where he was able to say goodbye to his friends and family who meant so much to him. He was at peace with what was happening and was ready to be reunited with his beloved wife Myra, who he had missed so much these past 8 years. For his two sons, Zach and Corey, Charles was nothing short of a hero. His unconditional love and support served as the perfect guide for what it means to be a great man and a great father. He cherished his daughter-in-law, Julie, and his grandsons, Cole and Connor. Charles dedicated his life to teaching. Generations of Weirton residents were fortunate enough to have Mr. Zarnoch in class, and his impact on so many young people can still be felt today. He truly cared about his students, and always enjoyed bumping into them years later. He never forgot a face, never forgot a name, and would more often than not be able to recall exactly what desk you sat at all those years ago. When the time came to retire from teaching, he turned his attention to tending bar at Mountaineer Casino, where a whole new group of people got the pleasure of being introduced to Big Chuck. The same can be said for those who frequented the cafes of Weirton. It never took long for people to realize what a kind and fun-loving soul he was. And generous too, especially when he had some good “presses.” No matter how or when you knew Charles Zarnoch, you never forgot him. His legacy will live on in all the lives that he touched. His family has decided to delay services until a date to be determined in the spring, when a celebration of his life will be held in Weirton. Details will be announced at a later date. So, get your favorite stories ready. We love you, Chuck. Share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Z2 and Z3, your dad was a fabulous teacher, coach, father and friend. He always enjoyed talking about you two and never missed an opportunity to share a story about both of you. Again he is with your mom and they are both watching over you and your families. May all the tributes and stories help you through this difficult time. He touched many lives and all are better because they knew him. ❤️

  2. First row, first seat for me, enjoying all of your energy and passion for teaching. Rest In Peace Mr. Zarnoch. Many blessings for your family you leave behind.

  3. I’m so sorry to hear that Chuck passed. I wasn’t lucky enough to have him as a teacher. I got to know Chuck while working with him at the track. My husband and I were blessed enough to call him a friend. I remember him stopping by the house one Christmas Eve and he brought some old year books. We went through them and laughed for hours. He came to our home only knowing my family but left with a house full of hugs and smiles. His love for his family is what I remember most. He was so proud of his boys, daughter in law, and grandsons. The love for his wife was so beautiful. We’ll miss your Dad very much. My deepest sympathies and prayers are with you all. God bless.

  4. One of my favorite teachers! I truly enjoyed your class. Front row right side of the room class of 88. You made learning fun! RIP Mr. Zarnoch

  5. For over twenty-six years, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Chuck. He was an amazing and dedicated teacher. He loved his students and they loved and respected him. With his colleagues, he was always willing to help and share his incredible knowledge of anything science related.
He also loved his family and was extremely proud of his sons. Zuke and I are so sorry for the loss of your irreplaceable Dad. I will miss you, Chuck.

  6. Dear Family — I’m so glad and grateful that I had an opportunity to talk with Chuck on the phone not too long ago; and he will always be in my heart as CHUCKY, my cousin from Elm Grove. May God’s peace and blessings be with you during this most tender season; and may He give you many lovely memories, so that you may always have roses in December. Always with Hope . . . Always in Jesus! Mary Ann

  7. To the family, I am so sorry for you loss. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Z in middle school. He was one of the best teachers I even had,
