david hinerman
On Sunday, March 7, 2021, David E. Hinerman of Weirton, WV passed away at the age of 78. Dave was born on June 15, 1942, to Edwin and Lucille (Jones) Hinerman. He was a 1961 graduate of Weir High School, where he won the 1959 Baseball State Championship. After graduating, he worked for the City of Weirton until he was drafted to serve in the US Army as a Military Policeman. After his honorable discharge in 1970, he began working in the Plant Protection Department of Weirton Steel Corp. until his retirement in 1997. He married his “Ace”, Toni Marie, on August 7, 1996. Most people that knew Dave referred to him as “Hiney” or “Coach”, as he had a passion for being a team leader. He coached softball, baseball, basketball, and golf over a span of 40+ years. He was also a baseball & softball umpire, and looked forward to umpiring for the Annual Fantasy Baseball Camp held at Three Rivers Stadium/PNC Park. Dave was a proud member of Weirton Masonic Lodge #171 for over 50 years. His favorite hobby was golf, as he loved playing with his “Over the Hill Gang”. He was very proud of the fact that he carded a hole-in-one in 1999 and again in 2007. When he wasn’t on the golf course, Dave could usually be found in his backyard admiring his perfectly kept lawn. He may have been more proud of his grass than he was the hole-in-ones! The summer months were his favorite, by far, but when the cold weather arrived you could be sure to find him in his recliner in front of his enormous TV screen watching WVU Sports or his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates & Steelers. Dave was preceded in death by both parents, Edwin and Lucille. He is survived by his wife, Toni Marie (Scandola) Hinerman and their sweet puppy, Angelo, daughter Alissa (Peter) DeSciscio of Hinckley, OH, daughter Monica Muscara (Paul) of Weirton, WV, and son Michael (Bettina) Muscara of Kalamazoo, MI. Dave leaves behind 8 grandchildren- Marisa, Michael, Mia, Matthew, Alycia (William), Allison (Matthew), Hannah, Henry; one very special great-grandson, Oliver; brother Raymond (Barbara) Hinerman of Weirton, WV, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Visitation will be 5:00 PM until time of services at 6:00 PM on Thursday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV Pastor Judi Bartlett-Tomes will preside. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the WV National Guard. 9. To Dave Hinerman’s Family Please accept Vic and my condolences on the passing of Dave. Dave was a good and kind man. We became friends while we were umpires in the Weirton Association. We had many good times and I will sadly miss him. He always joked about liking me even though I was a coach at Brooke High. With Dave’s passing there will be a void in many peoples lives. Accept our prayers and sympathies. We regret that we will not be able to pay our respects in person due to the fact we our in Florida. He will be missed. God Bless Sincerely Dave (Coach) and Vicki Reitter

  10. One of the best there ever was. I met coach Hinerman when he was an umpire for my little league team. I remember him helping me through games more so than my own coach did. Little did I know that we would be spending several years together on the field down the road, from kings creek ball all the way through high school. He was one of the most amazing people I’ve ever known. The kindness, the time he dedicated…he became like a second father to me for so many years and I couldn’t believe it when I’d learned of his passing. Sending my condolences and so many prayers to you Toni and Alissa. He left such an impact on so many people over the years and will be so very missed!

  11. Our most sincere condolences to Dave’s family, … so much sadness when hearing of his passing, so many fond memories of what a wonderful guy Dave was. He was the best of the best “Girls Little League Coach”, who brought the best out of our daughters when he coached them. Dave has been a life long friend who has left a mark on our hearts and will be sadly missed. Rest in Peace Dave… Sincerely Mike & Marlene Runkel

  12. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Hinerman at a local facility I was working. He was a little down on my last day of work that week. I spent quite some time talking to him. He was very proud of his family, loved his dog and mainly his wife. He spoke so highly of her. With tears in his eyes he thanked me for taking time to talk to him. I may on occasion had to give him a “rough time” but he listened to me. My thoughts and prayers for your family. I hope you don’t mind me sharing this moment, sometimes there are certain people you come across in life for a reason for. May he be in heaven in peace (and enjoying DeeJays) He was looking forward to taking his wife out and wanted me to meet her.
