dennis pyles
Dennis Lee Pyles, 62, of Colliers passed away from pancreatic cancer on Sunday, June 21, 2020. His family was at his side. Born on September 28, 1957, in Weirton, WV, Dennis was lovingly adopted at nine months of age by his parents, Hilbert W. and Pauline Louise Rosnick Pyles. Dennis graduated from Burgettstown High School in 1975, where he was a drummer in the band, and immediately began his employment with Weirton Steel. He started in the Mason Gang as a bricklayer and after 43 years of service retired from the Tin Mill. An extremely hard worker, Dennis also laid brick and block throughout the Valley. He also tended to his family farm, raising chickens, beef and pigs. He and his first wife of twenty-two years, Christine Martaus Pyles, taught their three children the work ethic that still carries on today. They were taught to mix concrete, take care of the farm, chop wood, and can the best pickles you ever tasted. In his free time, he loved to hunt and trap. He looked forward to taking the annual hunting trip in the Fall to Wetzel County with his father and best friend, Hilbert Pyles. He also loved loading up the kids and spending the day at area craft festivals and flea markets. On June 23, 2001, Dennis married Darla Joy Thomas Pyles, and they were like two peas in a pod until her passing on May 11, 2015. Dennis was a member of the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Wheeling and the Osiris Shrine AAONMS and the Past Master and Secretary of the New Cumberland Lodge 22 AF & AM. Most of all, Dennis will be remembered as a hardworking farm boy who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life of spending time with his family, walking in the woods, and, last but not least, helping and sharing his time and talents by giving to others. Dennis was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline L. (Rosnick) Pyles, and his second wife, Darla Joy Thomas Pyles. He will be remembered with love by his father, Hilbert W. Pyles; his children, Jenna and Jarett Bain, Rebecca and James Lackey and Zachary Pyles; his grandchildren, Arianna Highsmith, Joseph Bain, and Alison Lackey; his brother, Jimmy Pyler; his sister, Denise Lynn Dressel; and his inseparable best friend “Wiley Boy.” Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton. Please observe COVID 19 guidelines while visiting at the funeral home. Share tributes or send a hug from home at www.grecohertnick.com

  2. One of my most vivid memories of Uncle Dennis, aside from his disappearing finger trick, was during one of my sister’s birthday parties. I’ll neve forget him walking into our kitchen with a big ‘ol pie box and handing it to my sister. Needless to say, everyone laughed, except maybe my sister, when she opened it. Uncle Dennis actually put together one of the finest cow pies that I had ever seen, just for Michele. I still laugh about it to this day. Anyways, that’s how I’ll always remember him: His humor! To Aunt Chris, Jenna, Becky, Zach and the rest of the family, I’m sending you my love and prayers to comfort you in this difficult time. Love, Cousin Eric
