dominic tassey
Dominic J. Tassey, 88, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006 at the Weirton Geriatric Center in Weirton. Born June 4, 1917 in Chester, WV, he was the son of the late Frank and Margaret Gagliardi Tassey. Dominic was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Ann Marie Kiefer Tassey who died in 2002, brother Frank Tassey of Steubenville, OH; infant granddaughter, Carrie McDonald, and infant great grandson, Matthew Parker. With 42 years of service, Dominic retired from National Steel where he worked as a machinist in the Tin Mill. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Three Score Seniors, AARP, WSX 25-Year Club and was a life member of the VFW. Dominic served his country during WWII, and was a prisoner of war in a German prison camp. Dominic’s survivors include his son Dan Tassey and his wife Linda of Weirton; daughters Tina Crossley and her husband William, Linda McDonald and her husband Thomas all of Weirton and Debra Moses of Fairbanks, Alaska; brother Louis A. Tassey and his wife Mary Ann; sister Lucille Hoover and husband Richard both of Weirton; grandchildren Kim (David) Parker, Dr. Kelli (Stephen) Fournier, Chris (Valarie) Crossley, Mark McDonald, Jennifer (David) Krensavage, Maria Moses, Michael and Jonathan Tassey and three great-grandchildren Emily and Vincent Fournier of Weirton and Katie Parker of Cadiz, OH. The family will receive friends Sunday 1-3 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Weirton where military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 10 and Weirton Honor Guard.   6. With deepest sympathy in your time of needs. I worked at the Weirton Geriatric Center on the Alzheimers unit when Mr. Tassey first came. I worked the night shift. Mr. Tassey used to come out to the lobby in the middle of the night and want me to set with him, he would tell me stories of the war. He once told me he had agent orange and that was the reason he had no hair on his body. We would laught together and reminesce about the past. He was a great man. A father to be proud of.

Debbie, I can still see your mom and dad at your house when we would go there for Brownie meetings when we were kids at St. Paul’s. They always made me welcome.
