Emanuel Merenda, 82, of Weirton passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 in the Weirton Medical Center. He was born February 5, 1928 in Weirton, WV, the son of the late Carmelo and Rose DiGiovanni Merenda. His brothers, Joseph, Frank, and Charles Merenda; and sister Rose Danze also preceded him in death. Emanuel retired from the Strip Steel Department of Weirton Steel with 34 years of service. He was a member of St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, the WSX 25 Year Club, Knights of Columbus 3734, Antonio Meucci Lodge, I.S.D.A. Weirtonian Lodge and the Four Seasons Senior Citizens. Emanuel served his country proudly during the Korean War in the United States Army. Emanuel is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Jean Aria Merenda of Weirton; sons, Charles Merenda and John Merenda and his wife Rachael and grandchildren Roman and Angela Merenda. Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St, Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10am Tuesday at St Joseph the Worker Church, Weirton. The Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer will officiate. Entombment will be at St Paul Cemetery, Weirton, WV, with Military services conducted by the Weirton Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 229 California Avenue, Weirton, WV 26062.
