Emma I. (Vargo) Bowman, 84, of Weirton, WV died Saturday July 11, 2009 , at the Weirton Geriatric Center. Emma was born on January 16, 1925, in Poland, OH, a daughter of the late John and Pauline Reho Vargo. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin C. Bowman on June 14, 1979; three brothers, John, George and George Vargo; three sisters, Irene (Szuch) Slanchik, Goldie Kintz, and Lizzie Murray. Emma graduated from Weir High School in 1943, and moved to Baltimore MD, where she met her husband, Edwin C. Bowman. Shortly after, the couple moved back to Weirton, where Emma worked as a dietary aide for Weir High School, for over twenty years. Emma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the Red Hats. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, playing cards, bingo, and was known to pull an occasional prank. Most of all Emma enjoyed her family, and will always be remembered for all of her love and support. Emma is survived by her son, Senator Edwin J. Bowman and his wife Kathy of Weirton, WV; her daughter, Judy Sholtis of Fort Myers, FL; three sisters, Pearl Daugherty of New Cumberland, WV, Helen (Honey) Lettieri of Ft Myers, FL, and Lil (Dolly)Douglas of Weirton, WV; three grandchildren, Kristin (Ron) Cross; Tommy Sholtis, and Michael (Christy) Sholtis; three great grandchildren, Michael Sholtis, Anthony and Colin Cross. Visitation will be Monday 1 to 4PM and 6:30 to9 PM, at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, at the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Rev. Fr. Dean Borgmeyer will preside. Interment will follow at the Saint Paul Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made in Emma's memory to the Saint Joseph the Worker Grade School 229 California Avenue Weirton, WV 26062 or to the Weirton United Way 3205 Pennsylvania Avenue # 3 Weirton, WV 26062. We will always remember Emma as my mothers closest friend at WGC, as they built a beautiful relationship during their smoking time. They had a lot in common (great kids!) and a love for funand life.
