The world lost the beloved 83 year old resident of Weirton, Franklin Leander Hans, Jr., who went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 25, 2005. Born March 20, 1922 in Weirton, WV, he was the son of the late Frank and Isabelle Robinson Hans. Franklin was also preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Yuhas Hans; his second wife, Freda Riggs Hans; bothers, Andrew Tesack, Louis Hans, James Hans, and Robert Hans; and sisters, Isabelle Bonacci, Marie Barnes and Jeanette Hays. After 39 years of service as a Millwright at the National Tin Mill, Franklin retired and further pursued his lifelong passion of hunting, fishing, and gardening. Franklin served his country during WWII as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, he was Catholic by faith, a devoted father of two, a cherished grandfather of three grandchildren, a loving man with a heart of gold, and a member of the WSX 25 Year Club. Franklin’s survivors include his son, Richard Hans of Weirton, WV; daughter, Karen McCay and her husband, Andrew of Burgettstown, PA; brother, Thomas Hans of Weirton, WV; Sisters, Sue Wunduke, Maxine Blankenship, Violet Elo, all of Weirton, WV; grandchildren, Kristy Spencer, Daniel McCay and Andrew McCay, Jr.; and his K-9 companions, Bobby and Earl. The family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where Rev. Mark Reed will conduct an 8:30 PM worship service. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 AM at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton with Fr. Tony Thurston as celebrant. Interment will be at Paris Cemetery, Paris, PA. Frank was one of the best,we had a great time working together many years ago.He was one of the men that treated all equal and always willing to teach a young millwright the work he did,and I thank him for showing me what he knew about the cleaners.I know I will never feel the loss like your family, but I feel the loss of a great teacher and friend.
