Gary David "Ponch" Kirkpatrick

Gary David “Ponch” Kirkpatrick, 70, of Weirton passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 22, 2021. Born in Wetzel County, WV, on January 28, 1951, Gary was one of five children born to Leroy and Hazel Lemasters Kirkpatrick. Gary moved to the Weirton- Colliers, WV area and he began to work as a millwright in Weirton Steel. His career in the mill spanned 35 years, working many doubles of overtime before he took the buy-out option. In his free time, Ponch enjoyed Hunting and fishing and was a former member of the Colliers Sportsman’s Club. He also enjoyed NASCAR, visiting his family downstate, and taking trips around the country to see the sights. Closer to home, he enjoyed the slots at Mountaineer Park, Rivers Casino, or playing a parlay with the local bookie. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Fulmer. He will be remembered with love by his daughter, Amy (Mark) Vorderbrueggen, brothers, Edward and Charles (Jean) Kirkpatrick; sister, Sandra (Donald) Anderson; half-brother, Dexter Mellott, and half-sister, Charlene Rice. Visitation will be 4-8 PM on Thursday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV Ponch will be laid to rest privately on Friday at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV.
