George W. Lorenz
January 11, 1919 ~ September 23, 2005
George W. Lorenz, 86, of Weirton, passed away Friday, September 23, 2005 at the Weirton Medical Center. Born January 11, 1919 in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Nick and Sarah Rymer Lorenz. George was also preceded in death by his wife Anna Ross Lorenz on December 3, 2000, brothers Frank, Nick and John and sisters Millie Lorenz and Sarah Dineen.
With 40 years of service, George retired from National Steel where he worked as a General Foreman in the Blast Furnace Department. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and served as a Gunners’ Mate in the US Navy during World War II.
George’s survivors include his daughter Leslie Ann Lorenz of Akron, OH; son George David Lorenz; brother Edward Lorenz of Weirton; 3 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday 1-3PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10AM Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will in St. Paul Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 10 and VFW Honor Guard.

Your father was truly a special man! I shall never forget him and the sincere and deep faith he had for our God. I am honored to have come to know him when I served at St. Paul’s from 1990 to 1993. Know of my prayers and deepest sympathy as you grieve your loss.
I David am son of George D Lorenz and will miss my grandfather. He was a good man. The last time I saw him was Dec. 25, 2004. I wish I could’ve seen him one last time.
My deepest sympathies in the passing of your Father. I would pick up and deliver his taxes each year and always spend some time visiting with him. When our office was still located in Weirton, he would stop by after morning mass. George was a very nice man who I will miss. My deepest sympathies.
George was a wonderful man with a big giving heart. He lived his faith with every breath he took whether it was reading at mass, walking through the halls of the school, or stopping to give a hug along with the promise of a prayer. God took a gentle giant home. He will be missed.
