Harry James Robinson, 71, of Weirton, died Wednesday, August 04, 2004 at his home in the arms of his family. Born January 7, 1933 in Weirton, he was the son of the late Nicholas J. and Bertha Alberta Walker Robinson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Michelle Robinson. In 1992, Harry retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a construction supervisor. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1952-1955 where he was a trumpet player with the USMC President’s Band. He served 4 years as Lieutenant for the Weirton Police Reserve Unit; 22 years as a leader in our National Youth Little League Baseball Association, serving as President of Weirton Baseball Association from 1975 to 1980 and District Administrator for Little League; 5 years on the Board of Directors for the International Food & Art Festival. In 1979, he was presented the Weirton Rotary Club “Pride Award” for unselfish service and devotion to young people and, in 1987, was nominated for “Citizen of the Year.” He was a member of the Tri-State Marine Corps Club and the Dairy Queen Coffee Club. Harry served as Hancock County Circuit Clerk from November 1994 to present. He was President of the Northern Hancock County Kiwanis Club in 2003; 1997 Hancock County Republican Chairman; served as Hancock County Processer Server and the Democratic Chairman for Hancock County. Harry is survived by his wife, Dorothy Higgins Robinson of Weirton whom he married June 12, 1965; daughter Michele A. Robinson of Weirton; sons Michael and his wife Ruby of Terre Haute, IN, Mark and his wife Pia of Weirton, Sean and his wife Deborah of Germany and Brian and his wife Amy of Newell, WV; five grandchildren, Nicholas and Christine Robinson of Weirton, Casey Robinson of Terre Haute, IN and Hope and Grace Robinson of Newell, WV; brother Nick and his wife Lou of Weirton; sister Marsha Robinson Reynolds and her husband Tom of North Carolina. Harry also leaves several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 7-9PM and Friday from 2-4 and 6-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where a prayer service will be held at 8:30PM Friday. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10:00AM Saturday at the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Father Kent Durig presiding. Interment will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Weirton where military services will be conducted by the Weirton V.F.W. Post 2716 Firing Squad, the Evert Maki American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the Tri-State Marine Corps. Although we were living miles apart, he was always in my thoughts and prayers. This picture has always been an inspiration to me in my musical career and a way for me to keep him close, despite our physical distance. Throughout the years, I never saw Harry that he didn’t ask how my boys were doing. He was a gentleman and a great friend. His loss will be felt by many. My prayers are with you and your family.
