Irwin Eugene “Stu” Stukins, of Weirton, WV a humble man of great faith, met his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 3, 2021. Stu was 79. Stu was born on December 11, 1941, at his family’s home in Colliers, WV, the youngest of two children born to Frank I and Marybelle Crawford Stukins. Stu grew up in Colliers and graduated from Follansbee High School. He continued his education at West Liberty State College. He eventually earned his master’s degree in education from the University of Dayton. On November 15, 1963, Stu enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country for four years as an aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War. Stu retired after 31 years with Hancock County Schools, where he served as a teacher at Wells Junior High, the Dunbar School, Weir High, and Weir Middle. He also served as a temporary administrator at Weir Middle, an assistant principal at Allison Elementary, and head principal at Jefferson Elementary and Weirton Heights Elementary. Stu had so many favorite memories of his career, but nothing compared to the memories he had of the smiles on the children’s faces. Stu will always be remembered for his friendly personality and for his commitment to providing for his family. His summer breaks were filled with second jobs in addition to other entrepreneur opportunities with his school teacher friend Craig Andrews. In his younger years, Stu enjoyed riding dirt bikes with his son Chad. Later in life, he enjoyed riding his lawn tractor, taking walks with his wife, reading his bible, meeting his friends for a cup of coffee at the Weirton Bus Terminal, getting together with his golfing buddies “The Over the Hill Gang”, and especially spending time with his two grandchildren. Stu nourished his faith at the Starkdale Presbyterian Church, were he served as an elder. He was preceded in death by his parents. Stu will be remembered with love by his wife of 51 years, Janet L Dorsey Stukins, his son, Chad E. Stukins (Stacey); his two grandchildren, Chase Eric and Spencer Paisley Jane Stukins; and his sister, Mary Frances Lash. Private family visitation and services will be conducted at the convenience of his family. Rev. Carl Moore will preside. Stu will be laid to rest at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery in Florence, PA. 5. Some bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains. Stu is among those. I am blessed to have known him well and shared many memorable days and experiences in the Air Force. The picture includes two other of his closest friends from that time–Hardy and Big John–who unfortunately preceded him to eternal life but I am certain will now be reunited with him, as also I hope to someday. For me, death ends his life, but does not the memories and relationship I will continue to cherish. I wish Peace and Strength especially to Janet, and his family, but also to all reading this memorial and mourning a great loss. Richard Dix
