james bartolovich
James Douglas Bartolovich of Weirton passed away Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Weirton Medical Center; he was 76 years old. Born in Steubenville, OH, on August 30, 1944, the youngest of two sons to Matthew and Alice (Suray) Bartolovich. James worked for the Weirton Steel Corporation, where he retired from the Blooming Mill. All who knew him would say he was very kind-hearted and was generous to a fault. His brother Matt said, “To know him was to love him.” One of his greatest attributes was when he saw people; he was genuinely happy to see them. Under his senior picture from Weir High School, his classmates wrote, “Worth maketh the man.” James was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union. During the summer, you could find him in front of his television during baseball season, watching his favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Stephanie “Tessie” Bartolovich. He will be remembered with love by his son Richard Ralich, daughter Lori Gresko, granddaughter Stefani Gresko, brother Matthew ( Betty) Bartolovich, his nephew and godson Matthew Bartolovich, and his significant other Carey Robinson, all of Weirton. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2021, from 11 am until the time of the 1 pm service at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Entombment will be in Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton. Fr. Vasyl Symyon will preside over James’s service. Memorial contributions may be made to Stjude.org. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Our sincerest condolences to the family during this time of mourning. You are in our thoughts. Judy, Larry and Amy Gareis

  2. Jim’s family: I am so sorry and heartbroken for your loss. I 1st worked w/Jim at Star Lake at the gates. He would laugh at me so many times because he was so tall and I am short. Then after the casinos opened in town the Guida’s had me train and OMG! they hired Jim! We laughed so hard the day he came in and ‘it was me’! We had a good time. Many good years and good memories; we really missed him when he took off ill a few years ago. What a good guy; I feel privileged to have known him. Rest in peace my friend!

  3. Our prayers and heartfelt sympathies go out to Rich, Lori, and all others. While growing up playing baseball alongside Richie the one comforting mainstay was Tessie cheering in the stands, and Jimmy hanging on the fence rail smiling. I struggle to recall a single instance of Jimmy without his calming smile or pleasant good hearted disposition. The promise of Jimmy and Tessie smiling down, is but our one consolation. Sincerely, Justin & Brent Bettino

  4. Sympathy and prayers to the family. Jim was such a nice guy. He will be missed. Gary and Sandy Crawford

  5. My deepest condolences to the family, Jim was a very friendly person! He will be missed at our high school reunions – he “always” attended! Bob Kelley
