James L. “Polecat” Poulton, 92, of Weirton, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 in Weirton Medical Center. He was born December 29, 1925 in Wileyville, WV, a son of the late Clarence and Gladys Delaney Poulton Dulaney. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Edward Dulaney; his love at first sight, his wife, Frances E. Poulton, who he jokingly said "he spent 57 long miserable years" until her death, on November 14, 2005; son, James L. Poulton; daughter, Cynthia Cottrell, brother, Zane Dulaney; sister, Wanema Roberts and an infant sister who died at birth. With over 38 years of service, he retired from Weirton Steel where he served as foreman in the Blooming Mill. He will always be remembered for his happy nature. Somewhat of a lady’s man, you knew he liked you, when he teasingly gave you a hard time. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, American Legion Post 10, FOPA Lodge #1 and WSX 25-Year Club, Paris Sportsman’s Club. He was a life member of the VFW and Colliers Sportsman’s Club. When Mr. Poulton was not working he enjoyed fishing, camping, and golfing. But nothing was more enjoyable to him than the time he spent with his great grandson, Jace. He will be remembered with love by his sons, Thomas and Robert Poulton of Weirton; son in law, Rocky (Pam) Cottrell of Weirton; brother, Charles Dulaney of Colliers, WV; sisters, Norma Martin of Follansbee, WV; Rita Mae Amos of Knob Fork, WV and Geneva (Mike) McCarthy of Miami, FL; a grandson, Jason (Nikki) Poulton; and the apple of his eye, his great grandson, Jace. Visitation will be held Tuesday 3- 7 PM. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday. Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, with military honors. Share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com 304-748-3219.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Tom, Bob, Jason, Nikki, Jase,
I wish I could be there in person to honor Uncle Jim.
One of my earliest memories involved him. I have so many happy memories of picnics and trips to Tappan with Grandma and Grandpa and all the aunts, uncles and cousins.
I loved him and my children loved him too.
My prayers are with you this week as you say so long to him.
    Peggy Hunter

  2. I will miss my brother and the joy and laughter he brought to my life. I’m sorry I can’t make the trip for the funeral.
    Love, Reda Mae

  3. This was taken two years ago at a mini family reunion I went to. It’s Jimmy, Grandma (Reda) and Charlie.
