James William Abercrombie, of Colliers, WV, a retired educator with Brooke County Schools, passed away Friday, November 6, 2020, after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 73 years old. Jim was born in Wheeling, WV, on March 21, 1947, the firstborn of three children to Samuel and Helen Ash Abercrombie. A man of quiet strength, Jim grew up on his family’s farm in Short Creek, WV, and later graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1964. In 1966, while he was a student at West Liberty State College, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Williams. In their fifty-four years of marriage, they were blessed with three sons, a daughter, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A dedicated and very hard worker, Jim frequently worked multiple jobs to provide for his family. He taught fourth grade at Hooverson Heights Elementary School and then a majority of his teaching career in the Social Studies classroom at Follansbee Middle School. He honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserves and deployed as part of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. When he was not working, Jim was a lifelong and fiercely loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He cherished his time with his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments. He loved sitting down and sharing a meal with his family. Jim and his wife attended at the Crossroads Church in Weirton. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his infant sister, Catherine Ann Abercrombie. He will be remembered with love by his wife, Linda, his three sons, Scott (Jennifer), Kevin (Amy) and Eric (Melissa) Abercrombie; his daughter, Kelly (Rex) Coen; his sister, Lynne Christine (John) Stevens; his grandchildren, Mark (Cara) Rhodes, Kelcey Coen, Ryan (Rachel) , Sydney, Ethan, Emma, Reese, Grady, Nathan, and Beckett Abercrombie; and his four great-grandchildren, Selah, Annalise, Levi, and Dominic Rhodes. Visitation will be 4 PM until 7 PM on Sunday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be conducted at 9 AM on Monday. Rev. Randy Sells will preside. Interment with military honors will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Michael J.
