John Patrick Babinchak, 67, of Weirton, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville. Born April 5, 1951 in Steubenville, he was a son of the late John J. and Mary Hricik Babinchak. He was also preceded in death by his brother David Babinchak. John was a 1969 graduate of Weir High School, then went on to attend West Liberty College. He then worked at the Weirton Steel Corporation for over 40 years. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his beloved pets, hunting, fishing and was also a talented accordion musician. In his younger years, John went by the nickname “Johnny Babs.” He was very passionate about his children and his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Dcedo.” Whether he was vacationing at the ocean, visiting Utah, or playing in the snow with his grandchildren he always cherished the time spent with his family. John was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, WSX 25 Year Club and the Paris Sportsman Club. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Kathleen “Kathy” Babinchak; son Blaise Babinchak of Weirton; daughter Monica (Carl) Chiarenza of Herriman, Utah; grandchildren Gaetano, Natalia and Emilia Chiarenza and Ava Babinchak; sister Darlene (Michael) Doerfler of Pittsburgh; brother in law Doug Brier of Weirton; niece Danielle (Tim) Rowlands and nephews Edward (Joann) Doerfler, Michael and Stephen Brier and Curtis Mace. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4, 6-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 AM at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Father Babu Joseph Elamturuthil will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 140 Walnut St., Weirton, WV 26062.   1. He was my grandpa which I called Dcedo I remember going to Ocean City MD with him 12 times . He loved to ride rides with me but this year he wanted to be we knew it wouldn’t be good if he did . He loved going to Trashers French Fries 🍟 and Paul Revers in Ocean City MD . I know one thing he wanted to do is go see my cousin Guy graduate in May this year . He always talked about going to Utah or Ocean City this time of year . I’ll miss you very much dcedo . I know you loved to go fishing 🎣 and hunting. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys . On Sundays he always listened to polka music and watched football . This is from his granddaughter Ava .

  2. We grew up calling you “Johnny Boy”. Not even sure how that came about. But I remember the great times we had listening to you and your dad play in your parents basement playing the accordion especially polka music. I think we did it every Sunday. The Babinchak’s and Bubriks made dome great memories May your soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed Rest In Peace God Bless Sharon Bubrik Garbin and family

  3. Today would be 3 years with out you Dcedo . I miss you so much . You were my biggest supporter in everything I do/did . Yesterday was swimming regionals and I dropped time in my 200 free for you and I won in my heat . I miss you very much and this week has been the hardest out of all because of swimming and this day . I will never forget you .
