joseph bagienski
Joseph Bagienski, 86, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born July 21, 1924 in New Cumberland, WV, he was the son of the late Paul John and Mary Zielinsky Bagienski. He was also preceded in death by his wife Mary Kathryn Rattigan Bagienski in August, 2010, sisters Julia Bagienski Skinner and Helen Marie Bagienski Blake. In 1981, Mr. Bagienski retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a crane operator. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, VFW 2716, American Legion Post 10, Knights of Columbus 3734 and K of C Fourth Degree Assembly. Joe served in the 503rd Airborne in World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart for combat wounds incurred in the South Pacific. He saw action in New Guinea, Corregidor Island and Leyte. Joseph is survived by his daughters Rita Louise Kolberg of Robinson Township, PA and Barbara Carol Mitchell of Seattle, WA; sons David Paul Bagienski of Lake Wales, FL and Daniel Joseph Bagienski of Weirton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 9am until the 10am funeral Liturgy with Mass at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Larry Dorsch will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery where Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
